Fishing Report – MDNR 05/08/2024

Southwest Lower Peninsula

Muskegon: Boat anglers found Chinook salmon along with a few coho salmon 30 to 90 feet down in 50 to 100 feet of water. Blue, green and orange spoons worked well for salmon. The fish cleaning station is now open at the Snug Harbor boat launch on Muskegon Lake.

Grand Haven: Boat anglers found Chinook salmon to be scattered from 45 to 180 feet of water. A mix of spoons and flasher flies were reported to work well. Alewives were reported to have shown up near the river mouth, but the pier action was slow for brown trout and coho salmon. Alewives were caught using a Sabiki rig or cast net. A few freshwater drum were caught by anglers casting spoons in the channel. The best action was 40 to 100 feet down with green and orange spoons. White flashers with green or white flies were productive deeper in the water column. All the docks are in at the Harbor Island boat launch.
